Sebastiano Buscaglione, GÉANT
The presentation will provide an overview of how the GÉANT network infrastructure is evolving under GN4-3N.
As part of this ambitious project, with significant contribution from the European Commission, GÉANT is refreshing its pan-European Network infrastructure with the goal to deliver long term stability and affordable bandwidth to all of its members.
The 4 years project, started in 2019 sees GÉANT replacing the entirety of its connectivity infrastructure moving away from lease capacity and short term contracts in favour of Dark fibre and Spectrum IRUs.
Together with a replacement of the underlying infrastructure, GÉANT is also replacing and renewing its own optical line system, leveraging the most recent advances in DWDM technology; from Coherent transmission and DCIs to Flexible Grid and Spectrum sharing.
This session will cover the changes in technology and topology of the GÉANT network and the impact of those changes for the NRENs with particular focus on Slovenia and ARNES.
